This is the best one so far, perhaps unfortunately because the method is definitely not the safest lol.

Heated the cast iron in the oven (550 F) and left it in a bit longer than I meant to, so when putting the pizza together in the pan the dough was frying in the oil I put in with the heat from the pan, definitely a good way to burn myself!

Bottom was totally golden brown and blistery, crispy without being burnt, dough was light and airy. It’s looking like this may be my new method, for better or worse!

Where I come from, this looks like our preferred pan pizza (or bar pizza) from the South Shore of Boston. Great job!

Whats size cast iron? Is this the first time trying it with a hot pan? What were the results without heating? I have so many questions. Lol.

@OP This looks great. Care to share the recipe or rather method? I want to try and make a cast iron pizza. And soon.

Place the fully topped dough on a sheet of parchment paper (no oil required) and transfer it directly into the preheated cast iron pan. Trim any excess parchment if desired.

This follows the same principle used when baking sourdough in a preheated Dutch oven – high heat, enclosed environment, and direct thermal transfer for optimal oven spring and crust development.

Thanks for calling this a cast-iron pie and not trying to call it a round Detroit style

Looks like you nailed it. I’d eat the hell out of that pie!

I get good results by building the pizza in the pan then heating it up on the stovetop till it gets sizzling. Then the oven

Similar concept but the advantage is the pizza isn’t cooking while I’m making it

  14. Looks delicious, curious what the bottom looks like.

I do the king arthur recipe and it comes out great. Don’t preheat the pan or you will burn your crust to much. You can start it on a burner if you are worried it won’t be crisp enough.

It looks a lot better than the cast iron pizza I just baked. Mine was edible, but nothing exciting.
